Rapid Roulette taking off …

Rapid Roulette, a new version of the classic casino game, made its debut in the past few weeks at the four Harrah’s Entertainment properties in Atlantic City. The rules and odds are the same as the regular table game, but the computerized betting system makes play go at lightning speed.

The mechanized voice called out “Place your bets,” and Williamstown resident Ray Brown tapped the screen image of a roulette table layout faster than a teenager in a video arcade. Thirty seconds later, the pleasant female voice called out “No more bets,” and Brown had wagered more than $100. All he had to do was wait for the ball to drop on the wheel in the center of 12 computer screens to see if he had won.

The winning number was 10, and Brown had placed several chips on it. A smiley face flashed on the spot - and on the spot to bet on a black number - and the credits racked up on Brown’s screen.

“I just go crazy on this,” Brown said as his friend Andrew Sheehan watched. “I haven’t lost on this yet.”
